GB Boxers earn impressive medal haul in final competitive action of 2023

13 boxers from Great Britain have returned from this year’s Tammer tournament with 13 medals, which includes four golds for Charley Davison, Rosie Eccles, Ramtin Musah, and Patrick Brown.

The competition held in Finland is the final time members of the World Class Programme will compete in 2023.

The other medallists in the year’s concluding tournament were Demie-Jade Resztan, Kiaran MacDonald, Sameenah Toussaint, Joe Tyers and Harris Akbar who took silver alongside Cindy Ngamba who was representing the Refugee team.

Whilst Kelsey Oakley, Olivia Holmes, Cameron McKay and Chantelle Reid earned bronze.

As a result of an outstanding medal haul, the GB Boxing squad was also handed the ‘Best Team’ award whilst light-heavyweight Ramtin Musah was named ‘Best Male Boxer’ as well as winning the ‘Media Award’.

Future Paris 2024 Olympian Rosie Eccles was the first member of the squad to clinch gold on finals day in Tampere.

Eccles was crowned welterweight champion after her clash with the host nation’s Krista Kovalainen was brought to an end in the third round when the referee called a halt to proceedings.

The Welsh boxer’s other victory came against Norway’s Madeleine Angelsen unanimously.

Soon to be two-time Olympian Charley Davison was next to stand on top of the podium after firstly beating Sweden’s Sara Svensson at the semi-final stages before defeating Emma Jokiaho of Finland in the same manner to be crowned champion.

Next up was ‘Best Male Boxer’, Ramtin Musah, who competed in the most bouts of any GB Boxer having beaten both Arvydas Dainys of Lithuania unanimously and Erik Mendoza of Sweden via a 4:1 split prior to his light-welterweight final.

Musah continued where he left off and ensured of his gold medal by beating Germany’s Kevin Boakye Schumannunanimously.

The final boxer to win gold was heavyweight Patrick Brown who got the better of Nigeria’s Adam Olaore via a 4:1 split decision.

Brown’s other victory came unanimously versus Norway’s Muslim Yusupov.

One other boxers competed at the Tammer last week and that was Wales’ Ioan Croft who was beaten at the quarter-final stages by eventual gold medallist, Magomed Schachidov.
