Seven members of GB Boxing squad selected for upcoming World Boxing Cup in Mongolia

SEVEN members of the GB Boxing have been selected to compete at the World Boxing Cup in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia from 23rd-26th September 2024.

The competition, which will be held at the UG Arena, is the third World Boxing Cup event of 2024 and the first to be held in Asia following previous competitions in Sheffield (England) and Colorado (America) earlier in the year.

Like its predecessors, the event is a new addition to the elite international boxing calendar and is part of the World Boxing series which has been developed by World Boxing, the new international federation which has been established to ensure boxing remains at the heart of the Olympic movement.

The group of boxers selected by GB Boxing is comprised of four men and three women and includes England’s Patris Mughalzai and Elise Glynn as well as Wales’ Owain Harris-Allan who have all taken both a gold and silver medal at the two previous events in the series.

Also set to compete in Ulaanbaatar is welterweight, Dione Burman, and flyweight, Scott Richards, who earned a gold and bronze medal respectively in the first World Boxing Cup event of the year at the at the English Institute of Sport in Sheffield back in January.

In the women’s bantamweight category Ivy-Jane Smith will be competing in her second World Boxing Cup event of 2024, where she will be hoping to get amongst the medals after missing out at the Sheffield event.

Completing the squad is Paddy Hewitt who will be making his World Boxing Cup debut when he steps through the ropes in Mongolia. The light-middleweight come into the tournament after spending time as a sparring partner with the Team GB boxers at this summer’s Olympics in Paris and is hoping to build on the good form that saw him win two gold medals in as many tournaments in 2023.

The seven boxers will represent England and Wales at the World Boxing Cup in Mongolia.  The full team is:
