GB Boxing’s Strength Coach helps raise nearly £1000 for homeless charity as part of Sleep Out

GB Boxing’s Lead Strength & Conditioning Coach, Gary Hutt, with the help of  the local and boxing communities has raised just under  £1,000 for the homeless charity, Roundabout, after taking part in their Sleep Out on 8 November 2024.

Gary was one of a group of people that braved the cold to spend the night sleeping on the streets to raise funds for the South Yorkshire based charity which is committed to ending youth homelessness and delivers services, such as family mediation and counselling, to help young people break the cycle of rough sleeping and progress towards independence.

Roundabout is one of GB Boxing’s two official community partners, along with mental health charity, Sheffield Mind.  GB Boxing works with both organisations to use the power of sport and the resources of the World Class Programme (WCP) for boxing, to support their work to improve the ‘social capital’ of young people from disadvantaged communities and contribute to combatting issues related to homelessness, inequality and poor mental health.

Gary Hutt’s participation in Sleep Out was part of this and is one of a range of fundraising activities and community focused initiatives that boxers, coaches and staff have taken part in as part of GB Boxing’s work with Roundabout and Sheffield Mind.

As things stand, the boxing community has helped to raise £900 from the Sleep Out. Further donations to the appeal can be made HERE.

Gary said: “The experience was very humbling. It made me extremely grateful for the basic comforts I enjoy at home and helped me to realise how important the work that Roundabout does is in helping to give young people better opportunities in life.

“The initial target was to raise £100 which is enough to buy a Home Starter pack for a young person when they move into their own tenancy. To raise more than £900 so far is far beyond anything I thought possible and I am very grateful for the generosity of the whole GB Boxing community and everyone who  has contributed.”
