GB Boxing’s Lewis Richardson has nominated himself for election to be part of the British Olympic Association (BOA) Athletes’ Commission for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic cycle.
The light-middleweight, who won a bronze medal at Paris 2024, is hoping to secure one of the six available places on the Commission which is made up of 13 past and present athletes from team and individual Olympic sports and aims to ensure the athlete’s voice is at the heart of everything the BOA does.
The election is open now and runs until 23:55pm on Sunday 1st December 2024. All Team GB summer and winter Olympians from London 2012 onwards and Team GB Gold Club Members are eligible and can do via the link sent to them via email on 4th November 2024.
Richardson’s decision to seek election was inspired by his experiences at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
He explained: “The Olympic Games was certainly close to, if not, the best few weeks of my life. I would relish the opportunity to contribute to Team GB via the Athletes’ Commission to ensure that both the summer and winter Olympians of the future have a Games time experience as special and enjoyable as the one I had.
“From what I experienced, Team GB made it feel like a home games from the minute we stepped out foot in St Pancras station, to the holding camp in Reims and all the way through to the village and the Games itself in Paris.
“It often felt like I was living out of the comfort of my own home. I have no doubt that aided my ability to go and perform and ultimately win a medal. I am extremely grateful for all the help and support I received and would love the chance to help give back so that future Olympians get to experience something similar or even better.”
