GB Boxers return from Grand Prix with four medals
GB Boxers have returned from this year’s Grand Prix tournament in Usti nad Labem, Czech Republic, with four medals.
The tournament, which was this year ran in co-ordination with World Boxing as a World Boxing Challenge event, saw silver medals awarded to two-time Olympian Charley Davison (54kg) who marked her return to competition for the first time since Paris 2024 as well as light-middleweight Callum Makin (71kg).
The final two medals were bronze and were earned by Scotland’s Isa Akram (60kg) and England’s Leo Wood (60kg), the latter competing in his first tournament since becoming a GB Boxer at the start of this year.
Also, in action this past week in the Czech Republic were Lucy Kings-Wheatley (60kg) and Kerry Davis (75kg) who were making their return to competitive action following lengthy injury lay-offs as well as Alice Pumphrey (51kg), Aaron Cullen (55kg) and Ella Thompstone (65kg) – who all sadly missed out on the medal stages.,
Elsewhere on the same weekend, GB Boxing’s Dione Burman was competing at this year’s Haringey Box Cup.
The welterweight put in two solid performances during the competition to clinch gold.
