GB Boxers set to compete in next week’s Boxam tournament

GB Boxing will send a team of 15 boxers to the upcoming Boxam tournament in Alicante, Spain from 13th-19th November 2023.

The team, consisting of ten men and five women, will be made up of members of both the podium and academy squads.

Fresh off the back of winning gold at the Cologne World Boxing cup earlier this month, Wales’ Taylor Bevan and England’s Elise Glynn are back in action as well as Garan Croft and Patrick Brown who took silver.

Middleweight Kerry Davis is the other boxer who competed in Germany making a swift return to competition.

Both flyweight Hamza Mehmood and light-heavyweight George Crotty come into the Boxam in good form having taken gold at the Leszek in Poland with Crotty beating the reigning European champion to reach the top of the podium.

After just over a year out of the ring, Lewis Richardson makes his return at middleweight, with his last outing coming at the Tammer in November 2022, where he won gold and was named best technical boxer.

Shona Whitwell will represent England at lightweight and will be taking in her first bout since the European Games earlier this summer.

Completing the podium boxers is light-flyweight Ivy-Jane Smith who will box for the first time since joining the re-joining the squad in September as well as Savannah Stubley and Jack Dryden.

Four boxers will represent the academy squad and that includes Patrick Hewitt and Patris Mughalzai who both took part in the U22 Boxam in May of this year, claiming gold and bronze respectively.

He will be joined by Huey Malone and Isaac Okoh who will be both be making their GB Boxing debuts at light-welterweight and cruiserweight.

The 15 boxers competing at the Boxam will represent both England and Wales.  The full team is:
