GREAT BRITAIN’S Hamza Mehmood, Patrick Hewitt and George Crotty were all crowned champions on the final day of action at the Leszek tournament in Poland.

Silver medals for Gemma Richardson, Joe Tyers and Ioan Croft as well as bronze for Savannah Stubley, Olivia Holmes and Ike Ogbo meant that the whole travelling squad will return home with medals.

Usual flyweight Hamza Mehmood was the first member of the team to clinch gold on Saturday evening as he, competing in a bantamweight round robin due to low participation numbers, beat the host nation’s Krzpiet Jakub via a 2:1 split decision.

It was Mehmood’s second victory out in Poland, having unanimously defeated Oliwer Rogiewicz earlier in the week.

Next up and winning his third gold medal in as many tournaments since becoming a GB Boxer was Patrick Hewitt.

Having beaten both Oliwier Szot and Mateusz Grejber on his way to the final, the academy boxer continued his fine run of form by becoming welterweight champion inside two rounds as he forced the referee to call a halt to his final bout with Pawel Sulecki.

George Crotty put in an impressive display and with it the team’s final gold medal, as he beat the reigning European champion, Gabriel Dossen of Ireland via split decision.

The light-heavyweight’s other victories in Poland came against Patryk Gruch and Klemens Szczepaniak.

Lightweight Gemma Richardson, light-welterweight Joe Tyers and light-middleweight Ioan Croft were also in action on finals day but were forced to settle for silver medals on this occasion as they were beaten by Poland’s Sandra Kruk, Bartlomiej Roskowicz and Damian Durkacz respectively.
