GB Boxing will send seven boxers to Debrecen, Hungary for 66th edition of the Bocskai Memorial tournament from the 7th-13thFebruary.

The team will consist of four women and three men including flyweight Hamza Mehmood, super-heavyweight Delicious Orie and middleweight Kerry Davis, who all claimed gold in their last competitive outings.

Mehmood, on his first senior appearance since joining the programme, was crowned Golden Gong champion whilst Davis and Orie matched the feat in the Balkan and Golden Glove tournaments respectively.

Orie said: “I’m really looking froward to being back in competition. It’s the perfect chance to go out there and showcase what I’ve been improving on day in and day out in Sheffield.

“After making my senior debut last year, 2021 has taught me that at international level there is so many different styles out there and the only way to get that experience and learn from it and ultimately come out on top in tournaments, is to be under the lights and competing.

“My goal is to become a top amateur boxer and the only way you can do that is to gain that knowledge to help you to improve and this year there is plenty of opportunities to do just that with the Europeans and Commonwealth Games coming up and this is a great chance to get started.”

Davis said: “It’s a relief to be back competing as that’s what we all work towards, not just for enjoyment but to know where we are at, if we are improving and to gain experience.

“Last year I started to believe in myself again and I learnt that self belief is what can make the small difference in training and in competition and the plan is to keep that confidence growing with the aim of being successful in more minor and major tournaments.”

This year’s Bocskai will see Leamington’s Lewis Williams compete for the first time since narrowly missing out on a heavyweight medal at the World Championships last year.

After boxing four times at his first major tournament, Williams was beaten in his quarter-final bout to eventual bronze medallist Madiyar Saydrakhimov of Uzbekistan.

After sealing a bronze medal less than a fortnight ago at the Nations Cup, Jodie Wilkinson will once again step through the ropes to compete in the women’s welterweight contest in her third senior competition in five months.

Completing the squad is flyweight Tori-Ellis Willets and lightweight Shona Whitwell who in their last two competitions have both earned podium positions, resulting in a bronze and silver medal a piece, and will be looking to keep that pattern going when action gets underway in Debrecen.

All seven boxers will represent England at the Bocskai.  The full team is:
