FIVE men from the GB Boxing squad will fly to Finland as they compete in the 41st International Tammer Tournament from 21-23 January 2022.

The event will see a mixture of podium and academy boxers compete across the two-day long tournament.

Harvey Lambert will box for the first time since the World Championships in Serbia last October.

The welterweight returns to action for the first time this year after a memorable 2021 which saw him win his first senior gold at the Bocskai in February before moving into the podium squad shortly after.

Lambert said: “Last year was a massive year for me. The biggest of my career so far. So, I want to push on from that. I had some great experiences, with the Bocskai and the Worlds, and I want to take everything I’ve learned into this competition.”

After almost two-years out of the ring, Courtney Bennett will compete for the third time in as many months following his silver medal performance at the Golden Gong in North Macedonia in November which was swiftly followed by an appearance at the National Amateur Championships where he reached the semi-final stage.

Bennett said: “I’m feeling good. With the two tournaments at the end of last year I feel like I’m on a good run. Tammer gives me the chance to show what I can do ahead of a busy year with lots of majors coming up including the European and Commonwealth Games.”

Light-heavyweight Aaron Bowen also competed at the NACs last month and was crowned back-to-back champion after a series on memorable bouts and will be looking to continue his impressive run of form, which includes a gold medal in North Macedonia.

Completing the squad is featherweight John O’Meara and light-welterweight Joe Tyers who also competed at the Golden Gong, both winning gold.

All five boxers will represent England at Tammer.  The full team is:

Boxer Weight Class Country Club
John O’Meara 57kg England Dale Youth
Joseph Tyers 63.5kg England Billingham
Harvey Lambert 67kg England St Paul’s ABC
Aaron Bowen 80kg England Box Smart Elite
Courtney Bennett 92kg+ England Royal Resistance

The results of all the bouts involving boxers from Great Britain will be posted on GB Boxing’s social media channels and at www.gbboxing.org.uk.
