Crotty beaten in tight contest on day six in Belgrade

England’s George Crotty was beaten narrowly in a fiercely contested bout at the AIBA World Boxing Championships.

The light-heavyweight was the only member of the GB Boxing team to compete on day six of the tournament but found himself on the wrong side of a close points decision (4:1) against Kyrgyzstan’s  Omurbek Bekzhigit Uulu.

After being handed a bye for the opening round, Crotty leaves Belgrade at the round of 32 stage.

Three boxers will represent England tomorrow (Sunday 31st October) with all three competing for a place in their respective quarter-finals.

First up is cruiserweight Conner Tudsbury, after an impressive victory last time out, he now faces Slovakia’s Matus Strnisko.

He will then be soon followed by Delicious Orie who will be looking for to emulate his devastating success in the previous round against Lazizbek Mullojonov of Uzbekistan.

Concluding the days action is Lewis Williams who will be hoping to earn his third win of the competition when he steps through the ropes against Ukraine’s Robert Marton.
