Orie secures place in next round with convincing win on mixed day in Belgrade

England’s Delicious Orie sealed his spot in the next round of the super-heavyweight contest after a dominant win at the World Championships on a mixed day for GB Boxers.

The 24-year-old faced Mexico’s Luis Gomez Meneses in the second preliminary round and wasted no time in making his mark on the competition, imposing a trio of standing counts on his opponent to force a stoppage in the final round.

He will now be up against Uzbekistan’s Lazizbek Mullojonov on Sunday 31st October.

There was disappoint however for featherweight Niall Farrell who was narrowly beaten by Samuel Kistohurry via a split decision (3:2).

Despite a particularly impressive final round, it was not enough to get the better of the Frenchman who most recently competed at Tokyo 2020.

Two boxers will represent England tomorrow (Friday 29th October)

Up first, and competing in his second bout of the competition after an impressive win last time out, heavyweight, Lewis Williams faces Indrit Laci of Albania.

After being handed a bye in the opening round, light-middleweight Harris Akbar will take on Ukraine’s Yurii Zakharieiev for a place in the third preliminary stage.
