17 members of the GB Boxing squad will head to Ireland next week for an international training camp as they step-up preparations for the European Olympic qualifier which will take place in June.

All 12 boxers that are due to take part in the Olympic qualifier will head to Coleraine for the training camp which will run from 7-12 April 2021.

The men and women in the GB Boxing squad will train and spar with boxers from the Irish and French teams and take part in a series of gym bouts.

GB Boxing’s Performance Director, Rob McCracken explained: “These types of camps are very good preparation for the boxers.  It gives us a chance to train in a different environment with good quality opponents and freshen ourselves up ahead of a busy few months.

“Both Ireland and France have very strong teams and having the opportunity to spar with their boxers will be good for our squad as we look to increase the intensity of our training in preparation for the Olympic qualifier in June.”

The camp will be held under Covid secure conditions and a series of protocols have been put in place to ensure the health and safety of all the boxers and coaches that will take part.

The boxers will train in designated bubbles to keep mixing to a minimum.  Coaches will wear personal protective equipment during all sessions and the boxers will wear face masks, except when sparring.   All of the boxers in the Great Britain team will have a Covid test, 72 hours prior to departure and before returning to the UK.
