GB Boxing maintains their 100% winning record as the Bocskai heads into its third day where all team members are in action including Lauren Price and Cheavon Clarke who return to action after 16 months

By 10th February 2021News
Frazer Clarke marked his return to the ring in over 16 months with a victory as he beat France’s Dini Djamili Aboudou via a split decision.
The super heavyweight last competed back in October 2019 at the World Championships in Russia.
The Commonwealth Games gold medalist will face France’s Mourad Aliev in today’s quarter final.
There was a GB and senior debut to remember for 19-year-old Gemma Richardson as she put on an impressive display against Czech Republic’s Lenka Volejnikova, winning via unanimous decision.
The two-time European Youth gold medalist returns to the ring again this afternoon as she faces Hungary’s Aliza Doka where she will be hoping to build on yesterday’s promising performance.
Both Harvey Lambert and Lewis Richardson maintained both GB’s 100% record as well as their own in the competition as they won for the second time in two days to earn their place in today’s quarter-final bouts.
The former won unanimously whilst the latter progressed via split decision 4:1.
Both will face off against Turkish opposition with Harvey up against Turgrulhan Erdemir in the welterweight category whilst Lewis will contend with Serhat Guler.
World and European Champion Lauren Price will step through the ropes for the first time in 16 months this afternoon when she faces Lithuania’s Gabriele Stonkute.
The middleweight last competed in October 2019 at the World Championships where she won sealed her world title and gold medal by beating Dutch veteran Nouchka Fontijn – who is also competing in this year’s Bocskai.
The 26-year-old will enter at the quarter-final stage of this week’s tournament meaning that victory today would guarantee her a bronze medal at the very least.
Also returning to the ring today is heavyweight, Cheavon Clarke, who like Lauren last competed 16 months ago at the World Championships where he exited at the quarter-final stage.
The European Games bronze medalist will step into the ring against France’s Wilfried Florentin and will also be guaranteed at least a bronze medal should he beat his opponent this afternoon.
After winning their opening bouts on Monday, bantamweight Nico Leivars and welterweight Rosie Eccles are back in action on day three, meaning that all members of the GB team will compete today.
Nico following on from his early stoppage victory will be up against Hungary’s Laszlo Bernath whilst Rosie will face the challenge of beating Nora Halasz, who is also from Hungary after she beat Women’s World Championships silver medallist Angela Carini in her opener.
All of our boxers will be competing at the quarter-final stages today, where as previously mentioned, securing victory would ensure a bronze medal at minimum at the next stage.
