Statement from GB Boxing on postponement of Tokyo Olympic Games until 2021

By 25th March 2020News

“Everyone at GB Boxing is understandably disappointed that the Olympic Games will not take place in 2020 however we recognise it is an inevitable consequence of the current situation and welcome this decision which prioritises people’s health and welfare and enables us to begin making plans for when the boxers are able to return to training at the GB Boxing gym in Sheffield.

“In line with the current advice the boxers are not currently training at the GB Boxing gym and will not do so until the guidance provided by the Government changes. All of the boxers have been provided with individualised home training programmes and we have been in regular contact with all of the men and women in the squad to ensure they are updated on developments and, most importantly, to make sure they are doing everything they can to protect themselves and others and are aware of the latest advice from the Government and Public Health England on Coronavirus.

“We are working with our key partners and stakeholders to adjust to this new situation and all of the coaches, support staff and employees at GB Boxing will continue to do everything they can to support the boxers and enable them to pursue their career ambitions and achieve the dream of competing at the Olympic Games.”
