Another outstanding performance from the likeable and loquacious Liverpudlian sealed his place at the London Olympic Games.
Opponents don't come any tougher than the Russians, and a cagey opening round was evidence of mutual respect.
Tom was simply too elusive for the Russian, slipping out of range and countering with his trademark backhand left. There was no way back for the Russian, and in third Tom boxed to perfection, speeding away with some fine shots as his opponent visibly tired, the final score 17:9 a mark of his superiority.
Tom becomes the GB boxer to qualify for London where hopefully he will be joined by some team mates in this afternoon's session.
