Anthony Ogogo will begin GB Boxing’s medal quest at the London 2012 Olympics following today’s draw at the ExCel Arena in London
The middleweight from Lowestoft will box Junior Castillo Martinez from the Dominican Republic at 3.00pm on Saturday 28 July 2012.
Next-up will be Welsh welterweight, Fred Evans, who will box Alyas Abbadi of Algeria at 4.15pm on Sunday 29 July. Scotland’s Josh Taylor will take his Olympic bow later that evening against Brazil’s Robson Conceicao at 8.30pm.
The rest of men in the GB team all begin their campaigns at the round of 16 so will not compete until later in the first week. Luke Campbell, Tom Stalker and Andrew Selby have all received a bye because of their world rankings and the super heavyweight tournament, which will feature Anthony Joshua, only has 16 competitors.
Bantamweight Luke Campbell will box either Jonas Matheus from Namibia or Jahyn Vittorio Parrinello of Italy on Wednesday 1 August at 8.30pm.
Anthony Joshua will begin his campaign on the same evening against Erislandy Savon of Cuba at 11.15pm.
Flyweight Andrew Selby will face either Ilyas Sulemeinenov from Kazhakstan or Salomo Ntuve of Sweden on Friday 3 August at 9.15pm.
Team Captain Tom Stalker is the last man to compete and will meet either Serdar Hudayberiyev of Turkmenistan or India’s Manoj Kumar in the light welterweight division on Saturday 4 August at 9.30pm.
In the women’s draw, Savannah Marshall and Nicola Adams have both been given a bye through the first round on account of their number two world rankings.
Lightweight Natasha Jonas will begin the women’s campaign on Sunday 5 August against Quanitta Underwood of the USA at 2.30pm. Jonas defeated Underwood in the Test event at ExCel in November 20011 and if she is successful for a second time it will set up a quarter-final against Ireland’s defending champion, Katie Taylor.
Flyweight Nicola Adams will box either Stoyka Petrova of Bulgaria or New Zealand’s Siona Fernandes on Monday 6 August at 2.15pm.
World middleweight champion Savannah Marshall is the last member of the team to compete and will box either Marina Volnova of Kazhakstan or Kenya’s Elizabeth Andiego at 3.30pm on the same day.
