A team has been selected for this month's international showdown in Cardiff.

A mixed team of GB boxers has been selected to take on a 'rest of the world' team in Cardiff later this month.

European Championship silver medallist Iain Weaver and Commonwealth Boxing Championship gold medallist Scott Cardle are among a team that will be put to the test by boxers from Europe, Asia and the USA. Amanda Coulson, Savannah Marshall and Nicola Adams will represent the Women's squad.

The action takes place at the Cardiff International Arena on July 30th and is part of the World Boxing Council's three day international boxing festival The Night of Champions.

Over 100 current and ex-champions are expected to visit Cardiff for the festival, making it the greatest gathering of champions in history. Already confirmed are such names as Eric Morales, Roberto Duran, Hector "Macho" Comacho, Tim Weatherspoon and Leon Spinks.

WBC Night of Champions is the boxing equivalent of the Oscars, with awards being made to a variety of 'champions' - ordinary people who commit themselves to supporting young boxers, community projects using boxing as a way of re-focusing young offenders or giving disadvantaged young people new opportunities.

Unlike the Oscars, as well as celebrities from the ring and silver screen, the awards ceremony is open to the public. The ceremony is being held at the Cardiff International Arena, and tickets are now available for the dinner event.
