A mixed team will lead the charge for Glasgow 2014 this month, as they compete in GB Boxing’s first international competition of the season.

Great Britain has traditionally performed well in the tournament, which takes place every year in the Finnish city of Tampere. Last year the team secured four golds, one silver and two bronze medals.

Current ABAE and GB champion Jack Bateson is part of the team preparing for the competition.  The 18-year-old recently graduated from the Advanced Apprenticeship in Sporting Excellence (AASE) programme at Bradford Police and College Boxing Academy, and will be aiming to add a Tammer medal to his achievements this year.

The team also includes last year’s Tammer gold medallist and ‘boxer of the tournament’ Qais Ashfaq,  Chantelle Cameron representing the women’s squad at 60kg, Sam Maxwell, who narrowly missed out on Olympic qualification in the European decider this April, and European Championship silver medallist Charlie Edwards.

Joe Cordina and Anthony Fowler are hoping to match the performances that earned them gold medals in last year’s Tammer tournament, while the competition will provide more experience of international competition for current GB champions Joe Joyce and Lawrence Osueke.

The full team is:

49kg Jack Bateson (Burmantofts ABC, England)

52kg Charlie Edwards (Lynn ABC, England)

56kg Qais Ashfaq (K.B.W. ABC, England)

60kg Chantelle Cameron (King’s Heath ABC, England)

60Kg Joe Cordina (St Able ABC, Wales)

64kg Sam Maxwell (Salisbury ABC, England)

69kg Anthony Fowler (Golden Gloves ABC, England)

81kg Lawrence Osueke (Ryehill ABC, England)

91+kg Joe Joyce (Earlsfield ABC, England)
