GB boxers win seven medals in weekend of international competition

GB Boxing secured seven medals this weekend in the finals of the Ahmet Comert and Golden Belt tournaments in Turkey and Romania.
At 75kg Anthony Fowler took the Ahmet Comert gold medal by walkover when his Swedish opponent's corner pulled their boxer out of the competition. It was a short competition for Fowler, who stopped Australian Ross Weaver in his semi final bout.
Fellow Liverpudlian Sam Maxwell, at 64kg, beat off competition from Turkish boxer Can Kocak and Sweden's Claxens Goyexam to earn his place in the final, where he lost a split decision against Turkey's Ural Karslioglu.
At 91kg Warren Baister beat Sweden's Gabriel Richards to reach the final, where was forced to settle for silver by Turkey's Seyda Keser.
Joe Joyce defeated Aydin Aydoyan (Turkey) and Modo Salah (Sweden) on his way to the 91kg+ final, where he was unable to overcome Turkey's Ali Erin Demirezen, earning a third silver medal for the team.
Qais Ashfaq (56kg) and Welshman Joe Cordina (60kg) both won bronze medals for the team. Qais beat Turkey's Unal Guzhan in his preliminary bout but lost to Hungarian Nagy Kristian in the semi finals. Joe beat Yasin Yilmaz of Turkey but was denied a place in the finals by Hungarian Varga Miktos.
Podium Potential boxer Danny Dignum won a bronze medal in the Golden Belt tournament in Romania. Despite receiving an unenviable draw, the Brentwood Youth Project boxer beat Russian Amir Suleymaniov and Cuban Carlos Banteur Suarez to reach the semi finals, where he lost on points to Victor Carapcevshii (Moldova).
