The GB Boxing team is supporting National Lottery Thank You day today.
Andrew Selby
The male and female boxers are joining in the day to celebrate the investment of the National Lottery into British Olympic and Paralympic sport and to thank the people that play the lottery and buy the tickets.
Andrew Selby said: “We are very lucky to train in top-class facilities as part of a world class programme that caters to our every performance need. This would not be possible without the help of the National Lottery and all of us on the GB Boxing squad would like to say thank you to the National Lottery and of the people that play it for their part in enabling us to pursue our Olympic dream."
‘Thank You Day’ is a celebration of Lottery players’ investment in sport since 1997, with billions of pounds having been invested at grassroots, community and elite levels through Lottery distributors. Athletes from across the country including the GB Boxing team will be taking part in the ‘Thank You Day’.
The boxers will be tweeting their thank you messages through #thankyouday on Twitter. Their involvement in this event will show the huge influence that the National Lottery, along with it’s players have had in sport over the past 15 years.
The ‘Thank You Day’ Twitter page will create a montage of images taken and uploaded by athletes involved, allowing the public to tweet messages of support to the athletes.
Since the National Lottery started in 1994 it has invested over £4 billion in sport, along with an additional £2.2 billion of National Lottery funding that has helped make the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games possible.
The National Lottery funding has allowed over 1,200 elite athletes to train to the highest international standards for London 2012 and beyond and plays a key role in the funding of sport in the UK. ![]() |
