Frazer Clarke collected a gold medal for England at the Menís European Union Boxing Championships in Sofia, Bulgaria, this weekend.
The Burton super heavyweight enjoyed comprehensive wins over Alexei Zavatin of Moldova in the quarter finals and Tony Yoka of France in the semis. In Saturday's final he beat Italian Guido Vianello 3:0 to take the gold medal home.

GB Boxing was represented by seven boxers in the tournament, which featured 131 boxers from 23 European Union countries. There was disappointment for the rest of the team; England’s Sam McNess beat Genadijis Merkulovs of Latvia to advance to the second round of the preliminaries, where he was defeated by Eimantas Stanionis of Lithuania. Danny Dignum, also for England, beat Spain’s Damian Biacho to advance to the quarter finals, but was beaten by Christian Mbilli Assomo of France.

Scotland’s Aston Brown lost out to experienced Hungarian Balazs Bacskai in the preliminaries. England’s Lawrence Osueke was beaten by Slovakian Matus Strnisko and Irish boxer Hughie Myers prevented Oliver Simpson from progressing past the early stages. Jack Bateson suffered a quarter finals defeat to Alexandra Riscan of Moldova.
