Crystal Barker secured a bronze medal for GB Boxing at the Women's Youth and Junior Championships in Albena, Bulgaria, this weekend.
The 17-year-old Podium Potential boxer from Bridgewater Salford Amateur Boxing Club was representing GB Boxing as part of a team of four English boxers.

Boxing in the Youth category, European champion Crystal defeated Azerbaijani Anakhanim Aghayeva and Karina Sarabia of the USA in her preliminary bouts. She went on to beat Alicia Holsken of the Netherlands in her quarter final.

She was denied a place in the finals by the eventual champion at 51kg, Yu-Ting Lin of Taiwan.

GB Boxing coach Bob Dillon was in Crystal's corner. He said: "Crystal is constantly proving herself on the international stage. The World Championships is an incredibly tough competition, with boxers competing several times over a short period of time. 

"Crystal beat a series of skilled, experienced opponents to reach the semi finals; she is proving to be a force to be reckoned with on the world stage."

Ebonie Jones, representing England, won a bronze medal in the Junior category at 50kg.

The 15-year-old from Heart of Portsmouth ABC lost a split decision in her fourth bout of the contest to eventual silver medallist Anush Grigoryan of Armenia. Earlier in the competition she saw off opponents from Ukraine, Turkey and India.
