British Lionhearts look to do the double over Italia Thunder in a tough away fixture

The British Lionhearts face a strong Italy team in the next round of the World Series of Boxing when they take-on the reigning champions Dolce & Gabbana Italia Thunder in a top-of-the-table contest at Palmaggio in Caserta on Saturday 2nd February 2013.
The contest will pit the Lionhearts, who lie third in Group B of the World Series with 12 points, against a second-placed Italian team that has a point more.
A victory for either side will virtually guarantee qualification for the knockout stages of the World Series of Boxing and a chance to win the 1 million Euros first prize.
Commonwealth Games gold medallist Sean McGoldrick, European Champion Joe Ward and London 2012 Olympian Josh Taylor will all box for the Lionhearts as they look to complete a prestigious double over the reigning World Series champions following a 4-1 victory over Italia Thunder in the home fixture last November.
The trio will be joined in the Lionhearts line-up by international selections Kaupo Arro of Estonia at middleweight and Tongan heavyweight, Uaine Fa.
They will face a strong Italian team which includes two medallists from London 2012, Clemente Russo and Vincenzo Mangiacapre along with 2009 world champion Domenico Valentino.
It means a mouth-watering re-match at lightweight where the Lionhearts’ Josh Taylor will be looking for revenge over Valentino who narrowly defeated him in the quarter-finals at London 2012.
Taylor said: “Valentino is an experienced and awkward opponent, but my training has gone very well and I am really looking forward to the contest. I enjoy the different demands of World Series Boxing and think it suits my style. It’s less frantic than the amateur format and the extra rounds and the 10-point scoring system mean you have more time to settle into the bout and think about what you are doing.”
For McGoldrick and Ward it is an opportunity to extend their unbeaten records in this season of World Series. Ward is ranked second in the light heavyweight category with three wins from three and McGoldrick is ranked sixth at bantamweight following away victories against USA Knockouts and the Ukraine Otamans.
Sean McGoldrick said: “The Italians are a strong team so we will need to be at our best but my form has been very good so far in the World Series so I am looking forward to it and hoping to make it three wins from three for me this season.”
The match will be televised at 9.45pm (GMT) on Saturday 2nd February 2013 on ESPN (Sky SD/HD 417, Virgin 529, Virgin HD 530, BT Vision / Top Up TV / Freeview Channel 34).
It can also be watched live online from 8.00pm (GMT) at http://www.youtube.com/user/WorldSeriesBoxing.
