Podium Potential boxer Ashley Williams has been awarded the Howard Winstone Challenge Belt in recognition of his achievements as an up-and-coming boxer.
The award acknowledges Ashley's gold medal winning performance for Wales at the Popenchenko Memorial in Moscow in July, and his dedication over the past twelve months to make important changes and improvements to his boxing.
Welsh national coach, Colin Jones said: "Ashley is a worthy winner of this year award. Fresh from his victories out in Russia, Ashley has continued to work extremely hard over the past year and only now is started to see the fruits of his labour.
"Ashley has a long way to go to reach his full potential, but awards like this will certainly boost his confidence and keep him focussed on securing selection, and hopefully a medal at next year's Commonwealth Games.”
Howard Winstone MBE was a World Champion professional boxer with an illustrious amateur career; he won the WABA Championships and the Commonwealth Games Bantamweight division at the 1958 Empire Games in Cardiff.
